Review: Olaudah Equiano: The interesting narrative and other writings
If I was going to choose two black men who have made the greatest impact on British History I'd choose Olaudah Equiano and Toussaint L'Overture. Tousssaint's impact was great, but indirect. He beat the British Army on a battlefield many miles away in Haiti. And beyond mentioning his name because he's worthy of notice, he'll not be mentioned again here.
Olaudah Equiano is sometimes popularly referred to as 'a black Briton,' or even one of the greatest black Britons. But he wasn't British at all. He was an African. He knew it. And he was proud of it.
