C.L.R. James: The Black Jacobins
The author of this book, Cyril Lionel Robert James, was born in Trinidad in 1901. He left there in 1932, sailed to England, and became well-known for writing about cricket. Besides writing about cricket, he also wrote a play called The Black Jacobins. And the research from that play he later expanded into the eponymous history book which I'm discussing in this article.
This is the story of the Haitian Revolution, from 1791-1804
